Attack on toddlers in public park treated as 'transphobic hate crime' by police

An attack on two toddlers in a public park is being treated as a transphobic hate crime by police.

Police were called to the incident in Glenbryn Park in north Belfast after receiving reports of the incident at 2pm on April 22. According to Belfast Live, the tots had been attending the facility with their father, who is transgender, when they were attacked by a group of other children.

Officers said the group shouted abuse at the young girls before pulling them by the hair.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police are investigating a report of assault on two children in a park in the Glenbryn Park area of north Belfast on 22nd April. At around 2pm, it was reported that a group of young people were shouting at the children and pulled them by the hair.

"This is being treated as a transphobic-motivated hate crime. Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting 1371 22/04/24.
