Bargain Hunt viewers watched two parent and child duos compete against each other for the best bargains in Newark. Whilst the teams are always in it to win it, the blue team, made up of father and daughter sales executive Trevor and student Hannah, said from the start that they wanted to win the golden gavel.

Introducing themselves to the viewers, the pair said: "I'm Hannah, I'm Trevor, and we're here for a golden gavel." They set the bar high from the start, with Hannah taking charge initially and Trevor sharing that the £75 spend worries him as they're not used to spending so much.

A golden gavel badge is awarded to each team member if each of their items earns a profit, which can be a difficult thing to achieve. Today's episode of Bargain Hunt featured the father and daughter duo against the mother and daughter duo on the red team, with Mandy and Roanna.

Over the course of the episode, viewers watched as the families tried to find the best deals, whilst also trying to agree on which items would be best to turn a profit. Thankfully each pair had an expert on hand to act as referee and provide guidance on the items, this was Danny Sebastian for the red team and Colin Young for the blue.

When asked if they were competitive, finance officer Mandy said: "I don't like losing at board games, and I'm not going to like losing at Bargain Hunt." Her daughter added: "No she never let me win at Scrabble when we were kids."

Each team was given £300 and 60 minutes to find three items at the International antiques and collectors market, one of which had to cost at least £75 and another had to be a decorative metal item. The red team spent £149 on a pair of Victorian fish servers, a set of four chairs and a decorative kitchen trivet.

Meanwhile, the blue team spent £152 on a set of three bottles, a pestle and mortar and an 18th-century oak blanket chest. As the experts went off to find their bonus items with the remaining cash, presenter Natasha Raskin Sharp learnt more about Sherwood Forest and the Major Oak.

The auction then took place in Derby, where the reds started with a profit of £5 on the trivet, but things took a plunge when the set of chairs lost £25. Next up was the fish servers, which made a profit of £1, leaving the red team with a loss of £19.

Luckily expert Danny spent £90 on a printer's cabinet, which went crazy at auction with bids flying in and the initial bid of £80 skyrocketing to £150. This was a profit of £60, which left the team with an overall profit of £41.

Meanwhile, the blues also made a £5 profit on their first item, followed by an impressive profit of £17 for the pestle and mortar. The three bottles were purchased by the duo because of their link to Derbyshire, and these luckily made a £1 profit.

Expert Colin then spent only £4 on a set of binoculars, a fantastic bargain, and this did not disappoint when it was sold for a £6 profit. Meaning the blues had an overall profit of £29.

Whilst the blue team made profit after profit, thanks to the bonus buy the red team were able to save themselves from their loss and came out on top. However, it wasn't about winning for the blue team, the father-daughter pair were keen to secure a golden gavel which they were able to do by playing it safe.

This was a dream come true for the pair, as throughout the show every decision they made was about weighing up the risk and really thinking about what could make a profit. Natasha joked: "Trevor tell me, has it always been about the gavel."

With a huge smile on his face, Trevor replied: "Yes, all about the gavel."
