As May approaches temperatures seem to be (slowly) warming up. Parts of Surrey could see highs of up to 20C as the weather brightens after the bank holiday weekend. However, while conditions might be improving showers also seem set to stick around.

Across the next week (April 30 - May 4) towns like Guilford will see highs of 17C, while Haslemere and Woking could even climb to 18C. According to BBC Weather the temperatures will be consistently above 15C, although fairly rainy throughout.

Moving towards the bank holiday (May 6) the temperature is forecast to stay high. BBC Weather predicts that towns across the county such as Reigate will remain at 18C with the weather warm enough for a BBQ or picnic over the three day weekend.

Although from Monday conditions brighten up, May 4 through to May 13 is set to remain warm. The Met Office says that overall the South will be among the driest and sunniest parts of the UK, with temperatures remaining close to or a little above normal for this time of year.

BBC weather also forecasts that in the coming week the rain will stop. From May 7 to May 12 Guildford is not forecast to get any rain, instead experiencing sunny spells and the temperatures to go with it. The lack of rain will be a marked shift from recent conditions which have seen Surrey consistently hit by flood alerts.

Wednesday, May 8 is set to be the warmest day of next week, with conditions reaching a whopping 20C, and temperatures staying near this for the rest of the week. This means the town will be as warm as Sydney which is also set to experience 20 C weather. Elsewhere in Surrey some towns such as Reigate will remain slightly cooler but still sit comfortably in the high teens.

It seems at the moment like the northern parts of Surrey will have the warmest weather for the longest period of time. Staines is predicted to have 20C weather from May 8- May 10.

While forecasts this far into the future are subject to constant change the Met Office does however predict that towards the end of May rain may return to Surrey, with the North instead getting the drier spells. It also says that while there is a chance of below average temperatures, the average temperatures themselves rise by around 1C per week at this time of year.

Met Office forecast for the South East

Tuesday:

Sunny morning with gentle winds. Cloud gradually arriving from the southeast Tuesday afternoon, with a risk of heavy showers across Kent later. Potential for thundery outbreaks, especially overnight. Maximum temperature 18. °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Cloudy Wednesday with outbreaks of showery rain. Threat of heavy and thundery rain spreading north Wednesday evening. Cloudy Thursday and Friday with outbreaks of rain and isolated thunderstorms. Rather warm.

Long range - 4th - 14th May

A fairly uncertain period through the bank holiday weekend with more likely a warm but cloudy period with bright spells, greatest in the north and showers more likely in the south. However there is also potential for a more unsettled spell to spread from the west with fresh winds and bands of rain mid-weekend, signals still unclear regards this. Into the new week all areas are likely to see a mixture of showery periods or spells of rain, though generally drier conditions expected. Overall, southern parts of the UK will probably be driest and sunniest with a north-westerly wind most likely bringing more changeable conditions across the north or northwest. Temperatures should remain close to or a little above normal for early May.
