Beloved Victoria Wood statue smashed to ground as car ploughs into monument
A statue erected in memory of one of the north west's most beloved stars has been knocked to the ground in a dramatic town centre crash.
Emergency services were called to Bury, in Greater Manchester, yesterday evening (June 3). A silver people carrier had ploughed into the Victoria Wood statue
Images from last night show the front end of the car was completely trashed in the collision. The vehicle also appears at an angle, with the front wheels resting on top of the structure.

The statue has stood in Church Gardens, off Silver Street, for five years. But now the structure has been knocked to the ground.
Officers were called out to the scene late last night, following the collision. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "We were called shortly after 10pm."
"No arrests. Driver went to hospital with injuries but not believed to be serious or life changing."
Luckily, the statue appears to be in relatively good condition despite the crash. It is on the ground this morning, surrounded by bright orange barriers for protection.
Bury Council has been approached for comment.
