Beyond Paradise season 2 episode 3 spoilers follow.

Beyond Paradise viewers have been left divided over Peter Davison's character in the show's latest episode.

After Martha's mother Anne decided to explore the world of online dating after the death of her father, she seemingly found romance with a man named Richard Baxter (Davison) after suffering a handful of bad dates.

Fans were initially delighted to see the Doctor Who actor in the show, with several calling for him to become a permanent fixture in Shipton Abbot.

However this week's (April 5) instalment saw viewers cast doubt on Richard's motives for dating Anne, with several wondering if he could become a future villain on the series.

"So do we trust Richard?" one person wrote, to which another replied: "No I wish I did trust Richard but no."

"Richard's a baddy……." a third commented, alongside a gif of Schitt's Creek character Catherine O'Hara saying: "There I said it."

Viewers weren't the only ones sharing reservations about Richard either, with Martha also voicing her concerns that her mother was moving too fast in her new relationship.

After Anne mused about a potential future with Richard, Martha questioned her on if things were moving too fast in their relationship, asking: "How well do you really know him?"

Martha later attempted to smooth things over with her mother insisting that she was only concerned as she wanted to look out for her. "It's just you've spent most of your life worrying about me, I thought I should do the same for you," she said.

"I've also spent most of my life supporting you," Anne replied briskly, leaving the pair's relationship still fractious.

However, the episode wasn't only filled with strife for Martha, as the closing moments saw Humphrey reveal he'd finally arranged a date for the pair to tie the knot. But will it be a smooth road to the altar?

Death in Paradise and its spin-off, Beyond Paradise, both air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer.
