Brazen Scottish dine and dash couple laugh as they 'flee cafe without paying bill'

A Scottish dessert cafe has hit out at two customers who allegedly left without paying their bill while "laughing" at staff.

The couple are also said to have 'created a mess' in the shop's toilet before brazenly leaving without paying as Davie's Cafe and Ice Cream Parlour in Dundee took to Facebook to warn others.

As our sister title the Daily Record reports, a picture of a man and woman who the cafe claim were responsible for not paying was also shared online, although their faces are not visible.

It is said to be the second time a nearby establishment has been targeted by the couple after the Birkhill Inn reported the same people to the police when they reportedly fled without paying a bill worth more than £105.

Davie's Cafe and Ice Cream Parlour took to Facebook and wrote: "We are a small family business. Even a small theft hurts us badly. Here are two people who were impersonating another couple.

"The man made a horrible mess of the bathroom, refused to pay and laughed as they left. We have seen they have just done this to the Birkhill Inn too.

"Can all those who work in hospitality please be aware of their faces? They are repeat offenders. They will unquestionably do this at your work too."

Cheryl Roberts, duty manager at the other restaurant targeted, the Birkhill Inn, told The Courier about the second rumoured incident.

She said: "The pair were acting shifty from the moment they came in. They had three courses and enjoyed drinks but regularly went out for cigarette breaks.

"Near the end of the meal, some staff recognised the pair. You don't want to judge people but when they both walked out again towards the car park we asked them to settle the bill."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4.25pm on Monday, we received a report that customers had not paid for a meal at a restaurant in Birkhill. Inquiries are ongoing."

It is not known whether the second incident has been reported to police but Davie's Cafe and Ice Cream Parlour has been approached for comment.
