Britain's Got Talent: Simon Cowell welled-up when a former YouTube sensation auditioned

Simon Cowell welled-up on this week’s Britain’s Got Talent when he and the audience were blown away by an once famous YouTube singing sensation.

Saturday’s show saw the music mogul really take to singing priest Father Ray Kelly and went as far as to give him a standing ovation.

‘This was one of my favourite ever auditions,’ Cowell confessed, as he looked visibly moved after Father Kelly, 64, had finished singing his song.

David Walliams said ‘that was a really beautiful performance.’

Everyone else gave the Irish priest a rapturous applause, too, with the judging panel taking a real shine to him.

The audition was admittedly impressive, even after Simon admitted he ‘didn’t quite know what to expect.

‘This was everything we’ve been waiting for,’ he confessed.

After Father Kelly had finished his cover of REM’s Everybody Hurts and recovered from the standing ovation, he revealed that this wasn’t his first foray into the world of music.

I love Susan Boyle and one of my dreams would be to do a duet with her and sing with her because she has such an amazing voice.

“Her talent was discovered late in life, like mine, so there’s that comparison.”

I am a different type of act, for sure,’ he admitted.

The priest was once part of a boyband in his younger days and a YouTube sensation just the other year. ‘I say we were the first boyband before Boyzone or Westlife or Take That,’ speaking about his pop antics in his student days, according to the Mirror.

Then there’s the music video that went viral, which showed him singing Hallelujah at a wedding, which gained over 60 million views when it was uploaded back in 2014.

‘Simon told me they had never had a priest on the show before, so I am the first priest – and the first singing priest.’ he sad afterwards.
