Yahoo News Britney Spears says the knives in her dancing video were fake: 'No one needs to worry'
Britney Spears didn't intend to frighten anyone with her recent dancing video featuring two twirling kitchen knives.
The pop star said in an Instagram post Friday that the blades flashed in a viral video earlier this week were fakes rented from a prop store. "I know I spooked everyone with the last post, but these are fake knives that my team rented from Hand Prop shop in LA," Spears wrote. "These are not real knives. No one needs to worry or call the police."
The new post, which once again included a video of her dancing with the knives, came in the wake of multiple outlets reporting that authorities performed a wellness check on Spears after fans expressed concern.
Spears has maintained that she was simply inspired by Shakira's fiery performance at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this month, where the "Hips Don't Lie" singer belted out her biggest hits and brandished knives on stage. "Cheers to us bad girls who aren't afraid to push boundaries and take risks," Spears wrote Friday.
Police were previously called to Spears' home in January to perform a wellness check after she deleted her Instagram account. She subsequently said on social media that the move was "uncalled for," noting that she temporarily deleted her IG account because "there were too many people saying I looked like an idiot dancing and that I looked crazy." She added, "Honestly I was doing my best but it disturbed me to see people freely talk about it on TV."

The "Baby One More Time" singer is currently gearing up for the release of her highly anticipated memoir The Woman in Me. It's set to arrive Oct. 24, nearly two years after a judge terminated her decades-long conservatorship.
Spears' cult classic 2002 movie Crossroads, in which she stars as a high school graduate on a road trip with her best friends (Zoë Saldana and Taryn Manning), is also set to return to theaters for a limited engagement next month, in celebration of the memoir's release.
