Bruno Fernandes hailed Diogo Dalot as Manchester United’s best player this season, halting his interview with the BBC following the club’s 2-1 FA Cup final win over Manchester City.

Dalot played 50 matches this term, with 15 of them coming at the unfamiliar role of left-back. He started in the position in the final, having played in all six of United’s games en route to Wembley.

The full-back has been one of the most consistent performers for United this season and his captain believes he’s come out as the best player of the campaign. Grabbing him midway through an interview with the BBC, Fernandes outlined his assessment of his fellow Portuguese countryman.

The 29-year-old said of Dalot: “Fantastic season, he was the best player of our season. Now we need to go and celebrate.”

Earlier on in the BBC interview, Dalot hailed the way United played throughout the match and how the manager - who could soon face the sack - got the tactics right.

He said: "It was the best way to approach the game, the hard work, the resilience and it was our best game of the season in terms of being a team.

"You could feel in the dressing room before the game. We really wanted to win this game. This is the standard of this club and it has to be every game and it feels good to end the season with a trophy.”

He added: "We could've done more things better all season but it feels good for us and the especially the fans, they have been amazing all year and more than anyone they deserve this.

"We knew if we closed the middle and allowed them to play from the outside it could get easier for us and knew the spaces were in behind them."
