Bury Agricultural Show brings thousands of visitors to Burrs Country Park again

A popular event, which celebrates the best of agriculture and rural life, returned to Bury at the weekend, attracting thousands of people.

Bury Agricultural Show welcomed around 3,500 people at Burrs Country Park on Sunday, with the family-friendly event featuring an array of livestock displays, local produce and craft stalls.

Guests of all ages had the opportunity to interact with Dales ponies and learn more about the heritage of the critically endangered breed.

Treasurer Graham Smith, 41, said: “We’ve had really positive feedback from the show, and it all went smoothly.

"Despite some initial drizzle, it stayed dry throughout the event.

“We could not do this without our wonderful team of volunteers, including Bury Young Farmers."

The event broke its own record with 270 entries for the "sheep showcase", including breeds such as the Valais Blacknose Sheep.

There was a dog show with prizes for Best Rescue, Golden Oldie and Waggiest Tail.

It is supported by business sponsors including Cross Plant Hire, Crown Decorating Centre and ISM Waste and Recycling.

The show is put together by five committee members, who are supported by a team of 25 volunteers in the week before the event and on the actual day.

They are also calling for additional volunteers to get involved.

Graham has a background in equine care and first joined the Bury Agriculture Society as a volunteer more than ten years ago.

He said: “It is a brilliant community event, and we’d love for more people to support us in bringing it back to Bury in 2025.

“It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a background in agriculture, it could be in customer service or marketing.

"There are lots of transferrable skills which would be useful for the show.”
