Bus collides with bus shelter in Newcastle city centre

Two people were injured when a bus collided with a bus shelter in Newcastle city centre this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Newgate Street shortly after 4pm following reports of a one-vehicle collision, in which a bus had collided with a bus shelter. The road was closed by Northumbria Police to allow for recovery of the bus.

North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) sent a clinical team leader and a Hazardous Area Response Team to the incident and treated two people at the scene. Both patients were discharged at the scene.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Just after 4pm today (Wednesday), we received a report of a one-vehicle collision on Newgate Street, Newcastle. It was reported that a bus has collided with a bus shelter causing superficial damage.

"The road was temporarily closed to allow for the vehicle to be recovered but has since re-opened."

A NEAS spokesperson said: "We received a call at 16:08 this afternoon to reports of an road traffic incident with a bus colliding with a bus stop on Newgate Street in Newcastle. We sent a clinical team leader and a HART (Hazardous Area Response Team) crew and treated and discharged two patients at the scene."
