Café to get new lease of life after closure as wine bar set to open

A village café that closed its doors earlier this year is set to reopen as a wine bar later this month.

The Box River Café in Broad Street in Boxford, between Sudbury and Hadleigh, closed on Saturday, March 30.

Now, Murray Rose, managing director of Anglia Wines, and his business partner Ben Hopkins are gearing up to reopen the eatery as Box River Café & Wine Bar.

Run by the Box River Café Partnership, the venture will be Anglia Wines' first 'pop-up' wine bar.

Mr Rose said: "We'll be serving locally-sourced, seasonal produce from a range of suppliers, alongside a high quality, varied wine list at competitive prices, with the option to purchase wines to take away at retail cost, or to drink on site for an affordable corkage.

"Expect a special hot dish one night of the week as well as regular live music events, wine tasting events hosted either by Anglia Wines or guest sommeliers, and even intimate ticketed events such as pizza making masterclasses.

"Everyday food will consist of gastronomic brunches, sandwiches, salads, toasties and soups, cakes, scones, charcuterie and delicatessen, all alongside ethically sourced, delicious coffee."

The opening hours of the café are set to be revised to reflect the wine bar element, opening Tuesday to Saturday between 10am and 10pm and Sundays 2pm to 6pm.

Mr Rose added: "We really want the venue to play its part as an active part of the community and go a long way to help showcase Boxford as a thriving community with outstanding amenities on offer.

"We have a team assembled and the aim is to open at the end of May, in the week leading up to the Boxford Open Gardens on Sunday 2nd June."

Mr Rose said he and Mr Hopkins are also opening a branch of estate agents Town & Village Properties, of which they are both co-directors, in a neighbouring unit.
