Scarlett Moffatt has denied reports that she’s been axed from CelebAbility in favour of Loose Women’s Stacey Solomon, saying she couldn’t have been a team captain on the upcoming season of the ITV2 game show because she had other work commitments.

“I've just seen the advert for CelebAbility and I'm super excited," she told her Instagram followers in a series of stories. "I'm so pleased that Stacey Solomon is looking after the guests on the show.

“I did it last year and it was so much fun,” she added, before explaining that she was playing the Fairy Godmother in a production of Cinderella at the Sunderland Empire while season four was filming so she “couldn’t do it.”

The 30 year-old concluded: “I will be watching and good luck to all of the team.”

Ahead of the series - which sees a bunch of famous faces take on one another in a series of physical challenges - making a comeback tonight (Thursday 16 January), presenter Iain Stirling sang Solomon’s praises.

“She is just brilliant. She is an absolute professional, an absolute charmer and a joy to work with,” he gushed in a prepared statement. “It’s been a real honour actually. TV royalty!”

Sterling and Solomon will be joined by the latter’s real-life partner Joe Swash on the show, as well as a whole host of celebrity participants including Katherine Ryan, Roman Kemp and Coronation Street actor Jack P. Shepherd.

Moffatt doesn’t seem to mind that she’s missing out on all the fun. Taking to her social media pages earlier this week, she shared a sweet, loved-up post about her and boyfriend Scott Dobinson’s first anniversary.

"One official year of being @scottdobby girlfriend. I can safely say the best year of my life. Lovely little trip to Barcelona (one to tell the kids one day ha!) next trip is with all the Moffatts (so excited for that especially as sometimes I feel like my family love you more than they love me ha!)

"It’s took me to the ripe age of 29 to find the one, so don’t panic if you’re turning 30 or older and feel like wow I don’t have a family yet,” she continued.

"Love happens in mysterious ways & at mysterious times."

CelebAbility returns tonight at 10:05pm on ITV2.
