Celebrity SAS cast criticise James Argent for getting them punished on the show
Amber Turner said her fellow TOWIE star was "on his final warning by day one"
Celebrity SAS is one the toughest reality shows to take part in, and for the cast of the 2023 season it was even more difficult because of their co-star James "Arg" Argent, they tell Yahoo UK.
The TOWIE star struggled with many things on the show, such as putting his belt on properly and arriving at the camp on time when called by the directing staff, but even though he was the one having problems it was his campmates who were punished to set an example.
Argent's behaviour did not improve though, which meant the rest of the cast were regularly punished and this became frustrating for them, according to Amber Turner.
"We realised even though we were ready he was only half dressed and we had to go down in a minute and we knew if he had his pants down his ankles then we were getting 10 burpees, and it went on and on and on," Turner says.
"It got to the point where I was like 'I can't do this anymore, I love you but please just pull yourself together'... I'm pretty sure he was on his final warning by day one."Amber Turner
Turner adds that Argent's behaviour is normal for him, as she says: "What people don't realise is what you're seeing is how he is in real life, he is a bit ditzy and all over the place, and his bum crack is hanging out, he couldn't do his shoes up or his belt buckle up.
"He hasn't been taught any discipline, really. He's just our child, the child of the group."Amber Turner
But the reality star went on to say that Argent "progressed" and "got stronger" as the Channel 4 show went on, but it was frustrating to be punished for mistakes he made.
Athlete Perri Shakes-Drayton agreed with Turner, saying that even though they "can laugh now" it was "annoying", to be punished on his behalf: "Because of Arg that is why we were doing the task, it's like 'get your act together.'"
At a press conference for the series, star Danielle Lloyd said she became a motherly figure for Argent on the show because he was struggling so much.
Lloyd said: "He was a massive liability, I just felt I had to take on the role of being his mum because I'd be pulling his pants up by the second getting his a**crack away, putting his belt on, tying his shoes, he couldn't get himself dressed. It felt like I was back at home."
The directing staff would made Argent watch and encourage his campmates when they'd be punished for his actions, and Turner tells Yahoo she believes they did this "because he didn't have discipline", adding "They thought that they could get him [to have discipline] by watching us."
This wasn't the case, though. Argent would complain regularly about the show and what they were being made to do, Turner adds, not including the extra tasks the rest of the cast were being given because of him of course.
"It got to the point where he was moaning so much I was like 'if you don't want to do it go tell [the directing staff] that you refuse to do it and let me know how it goes,'" she says. "He can't help himself, that's just how he was."
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins airs on Tuesday, 26 September on Channel 4 at 9.30pm, with episodes continuing on Sundays from 1 October.
