Celtic 'learn' what Atletico Madrid will pay for Matt O'Riley transfer with Newcastle United on alert

Celtic have reportedly been told by Atletico Madrid they WON'T hit the reported £33million asking price for Matt O'Riley.

The La Liga heavyweights appear to have revived their interest in the 23-year-old after being knocked back by the Scottish Premiership champions. Atletico are "closely monitoring" the Denmark cap this summer with Diego Simeone keen on the star after he impressed during the Champions League clash with the Hoops' last season. The club are keen to add to their midfielder this summer - with reports in Spain starting that the Spanish side have been told by Celtic that O'Riley has a €40million (£33million) price tag.

But the latest report from Spain appears to make it clear that the Madrid outfit won't be hitting the valuation. Fichajes claim that Atletico view the valuation as a "complication" for their summer pursuit and the the club have informed the Hoops' chiefs that they will not reach that figure.

It is claimed that the club will go to €30million (£25million) - but negotiations are "ongoing." However, it is not just from La Liga that the midfielder is attracting interest.

Newcastle United are said to be keen on taking him to the English Premier League. The Newcastle Chronicle note that the Magpies "were on the scouting list at Parkhead at the end of the season to look at the Celtic star". It is noted that Brendan Rodgers does not want to lose the midfielder but "interest in the player is increasing."
