Celtic 'give' new Matt O'Riley transfer price to Atletico Madrid with key sale lined up to fund deal

Celtic have reportedly slapped a new bumper price tag on Matt O'Riley with Atletico Madrid and a host of suitors lining up this summer.

The La Liga heavyweights made their initial move for the 23-year-old in January but were rebuffed by the Scottish Premiership champions as Brendan Rodgers' side focused on the end of season run-in. However, reports in Spain have stated that Atletico are "closely monitoring" the Denmark cap this summer and are keen to bring in the Celtic star this summer amid a major overhaul by Diego Simeone.

With the likes of Newcastle United and Brighton also being credited with an interest in the midfielder, the Hoops appear to be in no rush to sell - and AS report that the valuation of the star has skyrocketed this summer. It is claimed that Celtic value the player at €40million (£33million) as the club know he is a "sought-after player" who "may end up leaving."

It is claimed that a deal may be put on hold until the La Liga heavyweights can sell Saul Niguez - which will reportedly allow Atletico to fund the deal. Boss Simeone has reportedly told Saul directly that he is not in his plans for next season.

The club are looking for at least €20million (£16million) to sell the fringe man. It is noted that an offer in the region of €20million was made to Celtic in January to land O'Riley - with the sale of Saul expected to make up the rest of the bumper fee demanded by the Parkhead chiefs.
