In the fourth episode of her BBC podcast, Kicking Back with The Cardiffians, Welsh superstar singer Charlotte Church was "dragged" by her beloved aunties for her "grim" revelation. In the podcast series, Charlotte has funny and frank conversations on belonging, working-class identity, and the unbreakable bonds of family.

Guests on the podcast include her parents, her aunt, her bampy (grandad), best friends, dance teacher, and even the local pub landlord. In the fourth episode, Charlotte chatted to her great auntie Frances and auntie Alison whose house she went round every day before and after school.

The aunties did not hold back and immediately ripped into Charlotte when she admitted she did not shave her armpits. Starting the podcast in giggles, Charlotte said: "Sorry I've got really hairy armpits, I've just realised!" and one aunt replied: "I was going to say, I was really shocked". Charlotte explained: "I stopped shaving" while her relatives questioned why, adding: "That is gross, that is! It is proper grim Charl, proper gross!" Charlotte explained further: "I just don't want to anymore... I sometimes shave my legs" while an aunty added: "Please do your armpits... anyone else they would have been out the door!"

Going on to introduce the podcast, Charlotte said: "The two women you've just heard absolutely dragging me for my armpit hair are my great auntie Frances and my auntie Alison!" Despite the lighthearted banter, the three also spoke about bereavement during the podcast, which has already touched upon some hard-hitting family matters during previous episodes.

Auntie Frances is the sister of Charlotte's grandmother, Maureen, and during the latest edition, they speak about Maureen's death in 2019. Charlotte describes how her grandmother passed away at home with her family around her and she says it was both a "rollercoaster but a privilege" to be there. Want less ads? In the first episode Charlotte's dad, James, shared his "biggest regret". He also spoke about his traumatic upbringing. You can read more here.
