Yahoo News Chernobyl leads BAFTA TV Award nominations
HBO's Chernobyl is expected to win big at the 2020 BAFTA TV Awards, with an impressive 14 nominations. These include best leading actor, best mini-series, best supporting actor and best fiction director.
The awards recognise and celebrate the best television of 2019 and the annual ceremony will be broadcast on Friday 31 July on BBC One.
Other top nominees include The Crown - a third series, starring Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter, was released last year to much acclaim. The show received seven nominations spanning best drama series, supporting actor and supporting actress.
The hugely popular Fleabag was given six nods, including best fiction director and best female performance in a comedy programme. The theatre version is currently available to stream online through Soho Theatre's website for a nominal £4, proceeds of which will go to charities supporting those affected by covid-19 pandemic.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Jamie Demetriou are the most-nominated individuals this year, with three nods each.
Crime drama Giri/Haji, which aired on BBC Two in October 2019, was given six nominations, while Killing Eve and Sex Education received four respectively.
Virgin and BAFTA are calling on the public to have their say on the Virgin Media must-see moment. A shortlist has already been compiled based on public vote.
