However, the cameras had switched to a view of the red carpet at this point, and only Metz’ alleged words were heard.

The 38-year-old actress has categorically denied insulting Brie. Metz responded to the allegations on Twitter Sunday night by writing: “It’s terribly unfortunate anyone would think much less run a story that was completely fabricated! I adore Alison and would never say a bad word about her, or anyone! I sure hope she knows my heart.”

According to Vanity Fair, their Golden Globes reporter Nicole Sperling mentioned the incident to Brie.

“But why?” Sperling quoted Brie as saying. “I know her. I saw her on the carpet and I told her how beautiful she looked.”

In fact several of Metz’ followers on Twitter argued that she had actually been complimenting Brie and had said ‘She’s such a babe.’

Brie was in attendance at the awards ceremony for her nominated role in the Netflix boxing series GLOW for best actress in a musical or comedy.

This is not the only incident from Sunday night’s Hollywood shindig. Jameela Jamil was accidentally named her character’s sister from The Good Place by E! Red Carpet and Emma Stone appeared to apologise to Sandra Oh for her whitewashing role in Aloha.
