Consett Police appeal to find 'gang of men' after brutal Bank Holiday attack

Police in County Durham are appealing for witnesses after a man experienced a brutal assault in the Delves Lane area.

The man, in his thirties, was attacked in Woody Close between 9pm and 9.30pm on May 27 - which was a Bank Holiday Monday. It's understood "four or five" men attacked the victim, who was hit in the head, punched and kicked while on the ground.

The man suffered injuries including a bust lip, swollen eye and cuts and bruises over his body. Consett Police said the victim's car was then damaged, with the windows smashed using what is believed to have been a hammer or metal bar.

The group of attackers then left the scene in two vehicles. One was described as a green 4x4, the second a black Nissan Juke. One of the suspects was described as being white, 5ft 7in-tall and of medium build. He is said to have mousy brown or blond hair, and was wearing glasses and a retro tracksuit top.

Anyone with information about the assault should contact PC Robson at Consett Police on 101, quoting incident number 374 of May 27.
