Coronation Street fans plead 'why' as they spot possible new couple that's not Nick and Toyah

Coronation Street fans have expressed their disappointment after thinking a romance could be back on. During the latest trip to the cobbles on Wednesday (April 24), viewers of the ITV soap saw Nina Lucas being helped by ex-girlfriend Asha Alahan.

As fans know, Nina's uncle Roy Cropper is currently behind bars after he was charged with the murder of missing teen Lauren Bolton and was later refused bail following a scuffle with one of the many internet sleuths who have been targeting him over Lauren's possible death.

Since then, Bobby has given a false statement to the police in which he said he saw a man leaving Lauren's flat when he got inside - but it wasn't Roy - and it led to more questioning of Daniel Osbourne. There has also been a case of dog napping in a bid for the online trolls to get a confession out of Roy.

But luckily, during Wednesday night's (April 24) trip to Weatherfield, Freddie returned home safe and sound thanks to Asha Alahan's efforts. As she returned the pooch to the cafe, Nina and Evelyn Plummer were overwhelmed with relief.

After Asha filled them in on what she did to get Freddie back, she left and Evelyn ended up encouraging Nina to go after her, suggesting there was still a spark between the former couple.

Nina instead asked Asha to pop over to the cafe flat where she presented her with some cupcakes as another thanks for getting Freddie home. As it was Nina's birthday, Asha gave her a gift, a necklace. In that moment, Nina ended up trying to kiss Asha, who rejected her, and an embarrassed Nina asked her to forget about it.

But Asha ended up telling Nina she loved her, and always will, but that there was no going back for the couple as they're "not meant for each other". And it appears Corrie fans were left disappointed by the near-reunion.

But others spotted another potential coupling, and it wasn't Nick Tilsley and Toyah Habeeb like many were suggesting, as @birdyw1967 said: "Nina and Lisa Swain [red heart emoji]. I’m calling it." @tamlizann25 also wrote: "I think Swain could get with Nina #Corrie." @mikepriestley13 also previously shared when more details about Vicky Myers' character was released: "So it say here DS Swain is a lesbian so could there be a thing with Nina or asha going to happen? They are the only other show regular lesbians that I can think of… #Corrie."
