Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has admitted that she has been “riddled with fear” over her participation in Dancing on Ice.

The actress, who plays Cassie Plummer in the soap, is in the latest group of celebs taking to the ice in the ITV skating show, and she opened up about the reality of her experience in an interview with Woman.

"I’m not going to lie and say I love every second of it! Sometimes I’m riddled with fear," she said.

"Today, I was swung around by the wrists and wanted to cry. I said, it should be fun and this is traumatising!"

She continued: "When I had Jaxon [her son], I suddenly became a bit scared of flying, aware of my own mortality and more fearful.

"Then you reach a certain age where perimenopause kicks in and fear starts to grip you when you least expect it."

Claire is partnered with pro skater Colin Grafton and will take to the ice for the first time this Sunday (January 14), with a line up which also includes Love Island winner Amber Davies, Emmerdale’s Roxy Shahidi and DJ Adele Roberts.

In a first look video released of the celebrities’ training, Claire shares an embarrassing moment which involved her trousers ripping during a training session.

She laughed: "I’ve been skating round the ice with my bum hanging out with Torvill and Dean, and no one told me!"

Claire also took to Instagram recently to record a candid video during a training session where she suffered several nasty falls.

She said: "I’m doing my routines with Colin, and I’ve had two falls – bang on my knees. It doesn’t half hurt!

"When you fall and you really hurt yourself, it’s just trying to keep yourself together to get back on and not let it knock your confidence."

Holly Willoughby will return to present the new series of Dancing on Ice alongside new host Stephen Mulhern, who replaces long-time presenter Phillip Schofield.

Dancing on Ice premieres this Sunday 14 January at 6:30pm on ITV.
