Dangerous driver hit 115mph on the A27 before crashing into a road sign

A dangerous driver hit speeds of over 110mph on the A27 while trying to flee from police before crashing into a road sign.

Blayze McKane sped away from police officers as his vehicle was not taxed or insured, overtaking other vehicles while going above 100mph.

McKane, 19, was eventually caught when he crashed into a road sign on a slip road, telling police he was "too scared to stop".

Sussex Police officers found his car embedded in thick bushes at the side of the A27 near Falmer.

Officers initially spotted McKane, unemployed, on The Drove in Falmer at around 10.30pm on February 4 and indicated for him to stop.

Rather than pulling over for the police, McKane put his foot down and accelerated away towards the A27.

Officers clocked him doing a top speed of around 115mph on the A27 in his Vauxhall Astra.

After being arrested, McKane told police he was "too scared to stop".

Sussex Police investigating officer PC Ben Dart said: “McKane’s driving was appalling. He reached dangerously high speeds which put other road users at high risk.

“He lost control of the vehicle and was very fortunate not to have caused himself or his passenger a serious injury.

“We were able to safely detain McKane, and he later claimed he was ‘too scared to stop’ for the police.

“Speeding is the main cause of one in three collisions in Sussex, so we are pleased that a dangerous driver has been taken off our roads.”

McKane, of Collingwood Close in Peacehaven, was banned from driving for 18 months after admitting dangerous driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving without insurance. He was also ordered to do 160 hours of unpaid work.
