Declan Donnelly will host Britain's Got Talent without Ant McPartlin

Declan Donnelly will present Britain’s Got Talent on his on in the wake of Ant McPartlin’s drink-drive arrest.

Fans have been speculating where Ant’s recent crash, arrest, and drink-drive charge leave the telly duo, with Saturday Night Takeaway still airing each weekend and a number of other projects set to begin production in the near future.

After it was revealed Dec, 42, would continue presenting the current run of Saturday Night Takeaway for its remaining two episodes of the series, the fate of I’m A Celebrity later this year and the impending series of Britain’s Got Talent was unknown.

However, showbiz expert Gordon Smart appeared on today’s This Morning to clarify what was going on with this year’s BGT.

He told Ruth Langsford, 58, and Eamonn Holmes, 58, that Dec would present on his own: ‘There are pre-records with Ant involved but we spoke to Simon Cowell’s people and what looks like is going to happen is Dec will go on on his own when the show returns in April,’ he said.

There has also been rumours that Scarlett Moffatt, 27, or a reunion with Cat Deeley, 41, could be on the cards; while Ant, 42, undertakes a course of rehab and his recovers at home.

Gordon also said: ‘It has been a huge week. It is a really interesting time to see what will happen for him next.’

‘In two weeks time, next Saturday, he will be back on his own.’

Eamonn, as many other celebs have suggests (like Piers Morgan), reckons there’s no reason Dec can’t handle hosting duties on his own: ‘Why does he need anyone?’ he asked. ‘He can handle that on his own. You don’t dilute the brand, it’s quite logical. Declan is a great presenter on his own anyway.’

This weekend’s Saturday Night Takeaway has been canned but producers are keen to air the final two episodes on 30 March and 7 April to see out the current series.

This afternoon it emerged that Suzuki had decided to part ways with the show and its stars after the final two episodes of the series, saying: ‘Suzuki are withdrawing their advertising campaign with Ant & Dec. No further material featuring the duo will be aired and Suzuki’s endorsement deal with the pair has come to an end.’

Ant was arrested on Sunday afternoon after being involved in a three-car crash and was taken in by police for questioning. He subsequently took a step back from television, vowing to enter rehab. The star has since been charged with drink driving.
