Yahoo News Dog killed in four-vehicle crash on M56
One of two dogs rescued from an M56 horror crash has tragically died. Emergency services descended on the motorway near Greater Manchester shortly before 5pm.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service says it was called out to the eastbound carriageway between junctions nine at Lymm and 10 at Stretton, in Cheshire, at 4.53pm. Six fire engines were sent to the scene along with a specialist animal rescue unit.
It followed a crash involving three cars and one van. Two dogs were inside one of the cars, but tragically, only one survived.
Crews are also working to release one casualty from a vehicle, the fire service says. Two lanes of traffic are currently closed approaching the scene, with four-mile queues affecting drivers heading towards Manchester, according to National Highways.
Motorists are being warned to expect disruption. A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: "The incident is affecting two lanes of the motorway and traffic is heavy. Avoid the area if possible."
