Dramatic moment fire engulfs two vehicles after electric car crash as man airlifted to hospital


Fire crews have shared dramatic footage of them working to get a fire under control after a two-car crash. Both vehicles were left alight following a collision on the B4064 in Oswestry, Shropshire.

An air ambulance was dispatched to the scene just before 7.30pm last night (Monday, June 10). Medics arrived at the scene to see two cars which had suffered "significant damage" and three patients.

A man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries. A second man and woman were both taken to hospital in a land ambulance. None of their conditions are thought to be life-threatening, a spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

They added: "On arrival crews discovered two cars that had suffered significant damage and three patients. One of whom, a male, was treated for serious injuries, not believed to be life-threatening, before being airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital.

"A man and a woman were treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital by land ambulance."

Four fire crews were sent to the scene with from Ellesmere and Wellington. A spokesperson for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said in an incident log: "Road traffic collision involving 2 vehicles.

"Both vehicles 100% involved in fire. One of the vehicles was electric. Crews wearing four breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. All persons were accounted for, and left in the care of West Midlands Ambulance Service.

"Crews were assisted by North Wales Fire Service. The stop message was received at Mon, 06/10/2024 - 20:22."
