Driver's miracle escape as huge tree falls in high winds and almost crushes cars

The moment a huge tree fell down and almost crushed cars in gale force winds has been captured in dramatic footage.

The incident happened on Monday, April 15, where the large tree blew over and collapsed on a busy road in Greater Manchester, blocking the road, reports Manchester Evening News.

A grey van can be seen miraculously continuing to driving and escape becoming trapped despite branches coming down. Other cars were able to come to a quick stop moments before the tree came hurtling to the ground at speed.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather alert warning for wind on Monday in the area with husts of 30pmh.

The terrifying incident was recorded along Princess Road, near to Chorlton, at around 12.18pm. After the tree fell to the ground, cars were brought to a standstill and buses were diverted. The incident was cleared a few hours later.

Stagecoach posted to X: "Due to a fallen tree blocking the inbound direction of Princess Road, we are diverting services 101/103 via Barlow Moor Road, Mauldeth Road and Nell Lane and Princess Road. Sorry if this is affecting your journey with us today."

The Met Office's yellow weather alert warned 'strong winds' could 'cause disruption' throughout Monday. Forecasters said there would be 'delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport' and also potential power cuts in some areas.

The warning covered most of England - including all of the North West, Midlands, the South and most of Yorkshire - plus Wales and Northern Ireland, until 10pm.
