Grimsby's Dunelm store is calling on customers to donate much-needed items to help schools and nurseries in need this summer.

For the first time, the homewares retailer has launched the community-focused campaign, Delivering Joy Local Schools Appeal, following the success of the annual Christmas Delivering Joy campaign, which saw 125,000 gifts donated to local communities across the UK.

Set on extending the joy into summertime, staff at the Dunelm store on Victoria Street South are appealing to local residents to donate much-needed items including stationery, cushions, beanbags and rugs for a reading area.

Customers are also asked to donate sports day equipment, pots, planters and seeds for gardening, as well as a summer pack for children whose parents are struggling to occupy kids over summer.

Customers can participate by simply bringing their contributions to the store and placing them into the designated collection trolleys before Thursday, July 18.

The trolleys will then be distributed directly to local schools, ensuring all of the much-needed items and supplies are delivered and ready to go ahead of the new school year starting.

Paul Sullivan, Head of Circular Communities at Dunelm, said: "We are thrilled to have launched our Delivering Joy Local Schools Appeal for the first time - particularly after the incredible impact that the Christmas Delivering Joy campaign has had over the past four years. We're already seeing communities across the country getting involved and can't wait to see all the generous donations put to good use.

“After being placed into our in-store trolleys we'll be taking all contributions directly to the schools in need."
