Dustman knocked down by bin lorry in collections horror


A bin worker suffered serious injuries after he was struck by his own lorry. Paramedics and police officers were called to Summer Street, Willenhall, just after noon on Tuesday, April 9, after the man was hit by the vehicle.

He was taken to hospital with serious facial and chest injuries. The driver of the bin lorry was helping police with their enquiries.

A wide cordon was placed around the scene. The Walsall Council Dennis lorry remained on Summer Street.

A spokeswoman from West Midlands Police said: "A man in his 40s has been taken to hospital with serious facial and chest injuries after he was hit by a bin lorry on Summer Street, Willenhall just before midday today.

"The driver of the lorry is assisting as our enquiries are on-going."

The council said: "Walsall Council is aware of an incident which took place today on Tuesday 9 April 2024 involving a loader operative and a bin lorry in Willenhall. An investigation is underway at present.

"Incidents like this are very rare and the safety of our workers is of utmost importance. Our thoughts are with the injured party and their family.”
