Eamonn Holmes reveals reliance on carers after becoming 'basically disabled'

Eamonn Holmes has opened up on having careers as he admitted that it has been a humiliating and humbling experience.

The Belfast-born presenter made a return to GB News on Wednesday after his unexpected exit yesterday due to illness. At the time, he sparked concern when he disappeared during a 7:45am interview with Mental Health Minister Maria Caulfield on Tuesday.

During the interview, Eamonn remained silent then abruptly left the studio, with co-star Isabel continuing to host the breakfast programme alone for an hour and a half. Eamonn presented Wednesday's show alongside Ellie Costello and talk soon turned to the upcoming General Election.

The pair were joined by two guests, Polly and Michelle, who came onto the show to voice their viewers ahead of Thursday's election, the Mirror reports.

Michelle went on to say: "Keir Starmer doesn't know what working class is. Keir is out of touch and his definition of working class is actually upper middle class and he is not in touch with the people. He is a long way off what is going on in the real world."

Eamonn responded: "I see the very good points you make. I am working class born and bred but I have to admit I'm obviously not in a working class area now but I do mix with working class people but my pay packet means that I am definitely not working class but all my roots are working class."

He continued: "You can be conservative and working class, you can be liberal democrat and working class and you can be labour and working class. At least you have to know what you are."

Michelle then said: "I would love to bring Keir Starmer, Rishi Sunak and Nigel Farage out to work with me for a day as a care support worker. They should come out with me for the day and see what I do, see what hours I work. I'm not finishing at 6pm on a Friday afternoon. I'm working 60 hours a week for £12.50 an hour."

Eamonn went on to open up and said: "I just want to say what you do. I have been basically disabled for a year and a half or so and I have to have a career to do the smallest simplest things and it's humiliating and humbling but thank goodness that careers are available."

While Eamonn is yet to publicly address why he quit mid-show yesterday but a spokesperson has since confirmed to Express.co.uk that the TV host had "fallen ill". They said: "Eamonn had to finish earlier today as he was feeling unwell. He hopes to be back tomorrow."
