EastEnders hints at an explosive custody battle for Stacey and Martin Fowler as they go head to head over their children next week.

Viewers last saw Stacey (Lacey Turner) leaving Walford in the wake of her big Christmas betrayal with Max Branning, but she'll be heading back home in upcoming scenes – where an unexpected situation awaits her.

Martin (James Bye) is stunned when Stacey returns with the children and initially tries to get everything back to normal.

But while Martin tries to act as if nothing has happened, it's clear that Stacey is on a very different page as she does her best to avoid the inevitable – eventually making an excuse to leave.

Following some much-needed advice from Ted Murray, Stacey decides to return to Martin but he's suspicious by her earlier disappearing act and accuses her of visiting Max again.

Although Stacey firmly denies the accusation, a huge argument soon erupts and Stacey ends up slapping Martin when he crosses the line.

As the situation spirals out of control, Martin throws Stacey out of the house – exposing her infidelity to the rest of the Square.

With Martin adamant that his wife is not having the children or the house, Stacey is left completely out in the cold – until Sonia decides to intervene on her behalf.

However, with Stacey and Martin at loggerheads, things quickly go from bad to worse when one of the children ends up in a potentially dangerous situation.

Thankfully, the incident prompts Martin to see sense and he agrees to reunite Stacey with the children, but the harmony doesn't last long as they are soon arguing again.

This time, the latest clash with Stacey results in Martin deciding to fight for sole custody of the children – much to Sonia's disapproval.

Sonia isn't the only one unamused by the Fowler dramas, as Kush Kazemi also weighs in on the situation – reminding the warring couple what they stand to lose with a custody battle.

Kush's words hit home with Martin and he contemplates giving his marriage another go, but it looks like Stacey has other ideas as she makes a mysterious call.

Fans will have to wait and see what Stacey is up to, but by the end of the week, Martin does decide to let her see the children, but can the pair finally reach an agreement? Or is the war only just beginning?
