Oscar-winning actress Emma Stone has revealed it would be “so nice” for people to use her real name.

Yes, that’s right, “Emma” is not actually Emma Stone’s real name.

She explained in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that she would prefer for people to use the name she was born with, Emily.

“That would be so nice. I would like to be Emily,” the 35-year-old actress, whose real name is Emily Jean Stone, explained.

The actress, who won an Oscar for her astonishing performance in Poor Things, explained that she gets “people that I work with” to call her Emily “when I get to know them”.

She added that The Curse co-star Nathan Fielder “calls me Em, which is easier”.

So why did she pick the name “Emma”?

She explained that members of SAG (Screen Actors Guild) can’t have the same names as each other, and “Emily Stone” was already taken. After going by “Riley Stone” for one job, she settled on Emma, after one of her idols.

Back in 2018, she revealed that she chose the stage name “Emma” due to her obsession with Baby Spice from the Spice Girls, Emma Bunton.

“Then I freaked out a couple of years ago,” she told reporters.

“For some reason, I was like, ‘I can’t do it anymore. Just call me Emily.’”

Emma Stone – or... Emily Stone – will be starring in Yorgos Lanthimos’ upcoming movie Kinds of Kindness, set to be released in June 2024.
