Emmerdale star Amy Walsh says husband 'turns off' after 'cringe scene'

Emmerdale actress Amy Walsh had admitted her real life husband Toby-Alexander Smith was left ‘cringing’ and he had to turn off the ITV soap after she kissed two men on-screen.

Amy's character Tracy Metcalfe has been involved in a dramatic storyline over the past few months as she was recently exposed for having an affair with her husband's uncle.

The couple are currently appearing on ITV's new reality show Drama Queens where she opened up on her life on and off our TV screens.

Speaking about her character, Amy said: “Tracey and I are similar really, I hate to say it but we are because we have both got that kind of love and life for people and fun. I would like to say that we also have good morals although she has just had an affair with her husband's uncle so not quite the same.”

Away from the soap, Amy’s love life is a lot less complicated than Tracy’s. The actress is married to former Emmerdale actor Toby, who is well known for his role as Gray Atkins.

Amy went on to reveal how she met her husband: “Me and Toby met in the audience of Strictly Come Dancing,” She said: “I didn’t know who he was and he didn’t know who I was but we got chatting then it came to light that we were both in similar jobs, he was in EastEnders and I’m in Emmerdale and we just hit it off.”

Amy went on to open up about how Toby copes with seeing her get intimate with other people on the show. She said: “I think it really helps being with another actor when you’re working in a soap. In one episode I was kissing two different men and me and Toby had literally just come back from our honeymoon and it was a bit cringe watching it with him to be honest and we had to turn it off.”

Amy added: "Some days I will come back from work and kiss him hello and then go: 'I've literally just been kissing Jurell I've not even washed my face!' And he would be like: 'Great, thanks!'

Despite the awkward moment, Toby went on to reveal that he loves supporting his wife in what she does. He said: "I think Amy is so amazing. I have seen her do some amazing work with the post-natal depression storyline. Her acting is so raw and she makes the most of every scene that she does. I do lines with her sometimes. Amy will find all different ways to make it as truthful as possible. I love watching her on screen. I am her biggest fan!"

Elsewhere in the show, Amy admitted that her current storyline is ‘full on’ but she has loved getting creative as it’s something different to her usual Tracy storyline. She said: “So it can really get to you as an actress and you just have to choose whether you tap into that or whether you stay away from it.”

“If it’s too emotional for you, personally, to then go about your business, I’d always say ‘stay away from it. Don’t go there.” Amy added: “Often Toby’s like ‘did you think about me and you breaking up’ and I’d be like ‘no’ there is just no way I could go there and continue a working day. In a weird way it’s like free therapy. I get to let it all out, then I go home and I’m happy again and it’s all fine.”
