Aston Villa duo Ollie Watkins and Ezri Konsa are expected to miss out as England kick-off their Euro 2024 campaign.

Watkins and Konsa earned their Three Lions call-ups for the tournament in Germany after playing key roles in Villa’s incredible season, helping their club finish fourth in the Premier League to qualify for next season’s Champions League and also reach the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League.

But it is understood neither will be picked by England boss Gareth Southgate for the nation’s first group match at Euro 2024 against Serbia on Sunday night. Watkins’ omission is no great surprise given his role as understudy to captain Harry Kane, who will lead the attack, while Southgate is expected to select the centre-back pairing of John Stones and Marc Guehi, leaving Konsa on the subs’ bench.

TalkSPORT report Stones - and also Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka - will start against Serbia, despite injury concerns in the build-up to the match, with Guehi getting the nod ahead of Konsa.
