The wives and girlfriends of England’s footballers kicked off the celebrations on Sunday night as the team hung on for a 1-0 win over Serbia.

Captain Harry Kane shared a hug – and took selfies – with his wife Kate Goodland in the stands after the win in Gelsenkirchen.

The pair, who met at school in Chingford, northeast London, have four children and moved to Germany last year after Kane joined Bayern Munich.

Also spotted in the stands were Dani Dyer, the daughter of actor Danny Dyer, with her partner West Ham star Jarrod Bowen as well as Bukayo Saka’s partner Tolami Benson, and Megan Davison, who is married to goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Ellie Alderson, whose partner is Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, Kyle Walker’s wife Annie Kilner and Lewis Dunk’s partner Abi Yaxley were also on hand to support the team.

Millions more fans tuned in to watch the game from home while others crowded into pubs, bars and fan parks including at Wembley.

Praising the matchwinner, England manager Gareth Southgate said Champions League winner Jude Bellingham “writes his own scripts” while team captain Kane said he was “unbelievable”.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who posted a picture of himself cheering England on in a pub, said Bellingham was “something special”.

A new study predicted UK businesses could lose 23 million working hours due to Brits struggling with hangovers after watching the games.

The research, carried out for NetVoucherCodes, said that could cost businesses £409million a match.

England’s narrow win and the earlier 1-1 draw between Denmark and Slovenia means the Three Lions already have a commanding lead in the group stage before their next games.

They play Denmark at 5pm on Thursday before taking on Slovenia on Tuesday next week.
