Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed he will take a gamble on younger players during the pre-season tour of the United States in his first released interview after the season review concluded.

On Tuesday night, MEN Sport understands that the Reds reached the conclusion to continue with the Dutchman as their manager for next season. Ten Hag's future had been uncertain after reports before the FA Cup final deemed he was set to leave the club.

However, following the victory over Manchester City at Wembley Stadium there was an outpouring of support for Ten Hag and it appears Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are willing to give him more time in the role. It is also understood that United's co-owners met with other managers about the possibility of replacing him as head coach but the ultimate decision was to stick with the former Ajax man.

While no public decision has been made that Ten Hag will be staying at the club, United's official website has released an interview with the Dutchman about the plans for this summer's pre-season tour. When asked about the squad he will be taking over the pond, Ten Hag insisted there is likely to be names going who will play a big part next season.

"Pre-season is about preparing for the season and we have to make that our next step," he explained. "It is one of the only times when you have the team together, and you can work in training on structures, the way of play, but also on certain standards around the team and that’s very important to take this period and use it effectively.

"We will bring players like Kobbie [Mainoo], who was very unknown by that time, and now everyone knows him. So if you want to have the first glimpse of players - maybe new players or young players who are coming up through the Academy, then this is your opportunity."

United will play two matches in Europe - one against Rosenborg in Trondheim on July 15 and another against Rangers at Edinburgh's Murrayfield on July 20 before jetting off to America shortly afterwards for three matches against Arsenal on July 27, Real Betis on July 31 and Liverpool on August 3.
