Exact time Edinburgh at risk of flooding and travel disruption as warning extended

Residents in Edinburgh have been told heavy rainfall could last even longer than predicted, after a yellow weather warning was extended.

Initially, the warning was due to end at 6pm on Thursday. It's now in place until 3am on Friday.

Those in Edinburgh and the Lothians have been told there is potential for flooding, travel disruption and interupption to power supplies. The warning will have been in place for 39 hours by Friday morning.

Extending the warning, the Met Office said: " Further persistent rain may produce some flooding and transport disruption.

"What to expect - f looding of a few homes and businesses is possible. Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer.

"Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer. Some interruption to power supplies and other services possible.

"Persistent rain will become more fragmented in nature during Thursday, but at the same time, some heavy, slow-moving bursts may develop across parts of southern and central Scotland. A further 10-20 mm, and in some places 30-40 mm is probable, across areas which have already seen between 20 mm and very locally 60 mm during this event."

Residents were urged to check flood advice, ensure mobile phones are charged, and park cars outside of flood zones. They were also advised to store valuables up high, prepare a flood kit and turn off gas water and electricity supplies.
