Everything we know about Fallout season 2
When will Prime Video’s hit video game adaptation return?
Fallout fans had such a good time venturing outside of the Vaults that Prime Video is treating them to even more wasteland weirdness in season 2. News of the show’s return was made official shortly after Fallout season 1 began streaming in April 2024 and swiftly became one of Prime Video’s most-watched seasons of TV ever.
As if that wasn’t good enough, the show — which invited audiences into a colourful post-apocalyptic wasteland set in the not-too-distant future — received glowing reviews, currently holding a solid 97% critics’ review score on Rotten Tomatoes.
With more on the way, it’s time we gathered all the information we have on Fallout season 2. Read on for all the key details you need.
When will Fallout season 2 be released?
Unfortunately, we don’t know when Fallout season 2 will arrive. News of the show’s return landed in April and as it stands, the show’s second season is still in the writing stage. This means it’s likely that we won’t get to see Fallout season 2 until late 2025 or early 2026.
Showrunner Graham Wagner told The Hollywood Reporter that the production is trying its best to get new episodes on air as soon as possible. “We are going as fast as we possibly can, and we’ve got a lot of heavy lifting from Season 1 already done,” he said in June 2024.
“We have sets, assets, visual effects, that are already done. We are hitting the ground running this season. We’re going to be pedal to the metal to get season two out as fast as humanly possible.”
Is there a trailer for Fallout season 2?
There’s no trailer available for Fallout season 2 just yet. In fact, cameras on the show’s second series are yet to roll. As soon as they do, perhaps we’ll start to see snippets of some of the first season’s characters making a welcome return.

What will happen in Fallout season 2?
Plot details for Fallout season 2 are still largely under wraps. That said, showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Wagner have teased a few cryptic things about what we can expect from new episodes tone-wise.
The first season of Fallout introduced us to an alternate reality that falls victim to a nuclear war that ravages America. While most of humanity was left to fend for itself, a privileged few were ushered into cushy vaults where they were treated to a life of monotonous safety — but one that isn’t all it appears to be.
Years later, we meet three survivors — the overly-optimistic vault dweller Lucy, military squire Maxiums and an undead bounty hunter known as the Ghoul — each with a very different background and each forced to navigate a dangerous new apocalyptic America filled with demons, criminals and cults.

According to Wagner, season 2 will look at how long Lucy can hold onto her cheery outlook in a dark and dangerous world. “What we’re already into in Season 2 is exploring how far we want to push this character, how much do we want to see her hang onto to herself,” Wagner told The Hollywood Reporter. “It becomes the game of the show in its own way.
Meanwhile, Robertson-Dworet assured fans that the show’s blend of dark comedy and grizzly gore will continue for the foreseeable: “What I’m really excited to continue in Season 2 is that blend of tones, that this show can have sitcom moments that are juxtaposed with people shooting each other,” she explained.
Fallout season 1 director Jonathan Nolan has been quoted as saying the second outing will “be playing in the same space, but not necessarily with the same elements.” This has led some fans to believe that the season 2 will play around with time and perhaps mine other elements from Fallout’s 25-year history as a popular video game.
Who is in the cast of Fallout season 2?
While the full cast for Fallout season 2 hasn’t been made official just yet, it’s a safe bet that we’ll see the return of Ella Purnell as Lucy, Aaron Moten as Brotherhood of Steel warrior Maxiums and Walton Goggins as red-faced gunslinger the Ghoul. Kyle MacLachlan, who played Lucy’s father Hank, survived the first season so there’s a strong chance he’ll be back too.
Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin will join the show as a “crazy genius-type character”, according to Deadline.
Elsewhere, it’s unclear who else might pop up in Prime Video’s Fallout wasteland. But as production on season 2 gets underway, casting news is sure to arrive soon.
“I’ve read nothing. I’m so unprepared,” Purnell told Variety about the upcoming season. “My only preparation so far is that I’m attempting to work out — and that’s just me knowing that in six months I’m going to be running up a hill 500 times and trying not to have asthma attack.”
Fallout season 2 is coming soon to Prime Video.
