Yahoo News Farmer who offered land to travellers to upset villagers sells two-acre plot to 'mystery buyer’
The farmer who offered to give away her land to travellers in an effort to upset locals has sold her £350,000 plot to a mystery buyer.
Linda Watson made the initial offer to give her two-acre land to travellers for free after she was refused planning permission to build a house on the land in Kirtling, Cambridgeshire.
The 48-year-old has owned the land for 17 years but wanted to infuriate the “unsupportive” locals who were “up their own a****” by allowing travellers to “ruin” the area.
However, Ms Watson revealed today that the land has been sold – but she can’t yet say who to.
She said: “A deal has been made to sell the land at 9am this morning. I have a meeting to see the solicitors on Friday.
“I can’t disclose the details of who it is without their permission.”

She added: “I think it’s going to get seriously messy and this is going to go on for a long time. It’s not over.”
Furious villagers were up in arms after Ms Watson offered to give her land away to travellers and confronted her outside her home.
Travellers also started queuing in droves outside the gates of the Coedendderw Stud, which she has run as a rehabilitation centre for horses for the past seven years, to take her up on her offer.
Ms Watson said she had never gelled with the “’snobby, gossipy and two-faced and nosy” villagers.
She claimed that renowned horse-trainer Lynda Ramsden, 67, and her stockbroker-turned-gambler husband Jack, 75, had terrified her own horses by allowing a helicopter to land on the lawn of their home.
And despite being refused permission to build a three-bedroomed bungalow on her land, Ms Watson claims the Ramsdens and another neighbour were allowed to build on their land.
