Fire Spreads Up Hill After Burning Beach Huts in Bournemouth

A fire broke out in a beach hut in Bournemouth, England, on July 20, spreading to at least three huts and burning through vegetation on a hill, authorities said.

The blaze broke out as hundreds of people were on the beach nearby.

Dorset Police placed a cordon around the area as firefighters responded.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire said there was “significant smoke across the promenade and West Hill Road," and that the fire was spread across about 100 square meters (1,076 sq. ft) of heath.

People were asked to keep away from the area and to keep doors and windows closed as a precaution. Credit: Ekaterina Berkova via Storyful
