A hapless puppy had to be rescued by firefighters after getting its head stuck in a garden wall.

Jeremey, a four-month-old Beagle, had been exploring his back garden when he got his head firmly wedged between several bricks on Tuesday morning.

His owner called the fire service after spending 30 minutes trying unsuccessfully to free him in Stourbridge, West Midlands.

A crew from West Midlands Fire Service attended the scene around four minutes later and were able to free Jeremy to reunite him unharmed with his relieved owner.

Firefighter Brett Mortimer said: “We deal with all manner of incidents and a job like this is about quick-thinking and care of the animal.

“It only took us around a minute to release Jeremy.

“We wrapped a protective cover around his head and ears, and freed him using manual manipulation.”

Mr Mortimer added: “I’m proud of my team, who showed quick-thinking to help an animal in distress.

“Despite his ordeal, Jeremy is said to be doing well at home. There was no obvious sign of injury, and he was in good spirits when we left the scene.”

Footage showing a trapped Jeremy was sent from the scene to Staffordshire and West Midlands Fire Control.

Callers are sent a mobile phone link which allows them to stream images so call handlers can decide how to best allocate resources.
