An investigation is underway after police disrupted an alleged drug deal on the Isle of Wight last night (Thursday, May 23).

Officers from the Island's District Policing Team spotted the alleged drug deal whilst on patrol in Sandown.

The suspect noticed the officers and attempted to make a quick escape from the scene, said police.

One of the officers, determined to stop the suspect from getting away, identified that a man had got into a vehicle.

The vehicle was located by police shortly after, and a drug search and impairment tests were carried out.

A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle whilst over the prescribed limit of a controlled substance, namely cocaine.

The man has been released under investigation whilst officers gather further evidence.
