Florian Wirtz continues to be heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer following his impressive performances for club and country. The 21-year-old midfielder currently faces an uncertain future at Bayer Leverkusen, with his contract at the Bay Arena set to expire next year.

This season, Wirtz played a key role in Xabi Alonso's side and helped the German outfit win the Bundesliga unbeaten. He featured 32 times, scoring 11 goals and providing 12 assists, as Die Werkself ended Bayern Munich's 11-year reign.

Wirtz also helped Bayer Leverkusen win the DFB-Pokal and reach the Europa League final. His impressive performances caught Julian Nagelsmann's eye, earning himself a place in the Germany national team for Euro 2024.

Repaying the boss' faith, Wirtz netted in the European championship opener as Die Mannschaft stormed past Scotland 5-1. So, with that being said, the Echo have rounded up everything you need to know about Wirtz and a potential move to Anfield this summer.

Liverpool transfer stance revealed

The Liverpool Echo understand that the Reds are not looking to sign Wirtz. It's believed that Liverpool don't regard the attacking midfielder as a priority this summer, particularly given his expected asking price of more than £100million.

Summer switch ruled out

Florian Wirtz's father has confirmed that the Germany international won't be leaving Bayer Leverkusen this summer. Speaking to German publication Bild, Hans Wirtz said: "Florian has a contract in Leverkusen. And he's looking forward to next year at Bayer when he can play in the Champions League with Leverkusen for the first time.

"Those are the facts. Now the focus is on the Euros. After that there’s a lot to do with the club next season, so there’s no need for speculation. There's really nothing to say beyond that."

Wirtz remains coy

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Euro 2024, Wirtz was asked if he wanted to play with Jamal Musiala at club level. The Bayer Leverkusen ace replied: "We both joke about this, it would be interesting to play in the same team in a way. But we are both happy in our respective clubs.

Then, when pressed further to pick between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, Wirtz remained tight-lipped. He said: "Jamal is already playing for Bayern and I am comfortable at Leverkusen."

Real Madrid interest

According to Spanish publication Marca, Wirtz and his representatives have a verbal agreement to join Real Madrid following the expiration of his contract next summer. The Spanish giants recently signed Kylian Mbappe on a similar deal, luring him from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

Arsenal swap deal

Speaking to King Casino Bonus in November, Jermaine Pennant urged Arsenal to swap Kai Havertz for Florian Wirtz. The former Liverpool winger said: "That Kai Havertz signing hasn't worked. I thought I'd give him some time to settle in, but that period is over now.

"I think he's been a poor signing. I don't understand what he brings to the team as he's not scoring or assisting. It's bizarre as Arteta seems to believe in him.

"I think Arsenal should have gone for Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz. His footballing IQ is off the charts! He's not a speed-merchant, but he's clever on the ball and he seems to always pick the right pass.

"His assists are great, he has an eye for goal, and I think he'd be a fantastic addition to Arsenal. He'd fit in perfectly there. Wirtz would be a lot cheaper, and they should trade him in for Kai!"
