A bearded dragon was found in a "poor condition" after being left out in South Lanarkshire woodlands.

The reptile was found by a group of walkers who were trail walking through the woods at Carnwarth, Lanark, on Sunday (May 12). The Scottish SPCA's animal helpline was contacted shortly after.

It was said to be frail when animal rescue officer Heather Shaw arrived at the woods to take it to safety. The dragon is now under the care of a animal rehoming centre.

Appealing for information, Heather said: "On Sunday afternoon we received a call from a group who were out walking and found the bearded dragon loose in the woodland. They contained the dragon until I arrived.

"The reptile was very skinny and in poor body condition. They are now receiving the care and attention from our staff at one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres.
