Guide to St Helens Pride celebrations as festivities get underway

St Helens Pride returns to Merseyside today.

The festivities are set to see the LGBTQ+ community and its allies gather in a sea of rainbow to “celebrate love, diversity, and equality”.

From noon to 4 pm, the family-friendly event, held at The World of Glass, will include an array of activities, including entertainment, craft sessions and educational market stalls.

Miguel Doforo of MD Productions, one of the event's key organisers, said: "St. Helens Pride is not just a celebration; it's a profound commitment to fostering understanding and acceptance across our community.

“This event provides a safe space to educate on LGBTQ+ issues while enjoying a day filled with joy and unity. We are grateful for the immense support from our delivery partners and stall-holders who have come together to make this day possible."

The events, which are free to attend, will offer a “dynamic environment” where the community can come together in support of inclusivity.

The marketplace will host a variety of stalls where attendees can access information, freebies, and support related to health and well-being. This year's event is especially focused on educational outreach, aiming to provide valuable resources to the community.

The day will also see live performances programmed by MD Productions including dancers, singers, and DJs in The World of Glass Garden.

There will also be activities such as treasure hunts and story times for children delivered by St Helens Library Service.

Emma Cuerden, health improvement practitioner LGBT & HIV at St Helen's Integrated Sexual Health Service, added: “As an LGBT+ ally and coordinator for the LGBT+ group ‘Over the Rainbow’, which offers support for both young people and parents, I know the importance of coming together to celebrate and embrace the town's diversity.”
