THE under 13s girls team from Hartford Football Club had already made history by reaching the Cheshire County Cup final.

Having become the first girls team from their club to get to that stage, however, they went one step further by lifting the trophy.

In what was a marquee afternoon for girls football in the region, Moss Farm hosted the cup final between two local teams as Hartford took on neighbours Winsford Town FC.

Hartford emerged as 3-2 victors from a close and exciting final, with Neve Foster opening the scoring for Hartford before an equaliser scored by Winsford’s Poppy Bailey.

Second-half goals from Lucy Kenny and Maja Golda proved decisive for Hartford and despite conceding an own goal from a corner, they saw out the victory to claim the trophy.

The victory capped a remarkable week for the team, who also won a youth tournament held at Egerton FC the previous week.

Hartford FC is a grassroots club that caters for both girls and boys’ football, with girls teams running from the under 9s to the under 18s age group while boys teams start from under 7s and run right through to under 21s.

Squad: Rachel Aldridge (Goalkeeper and Captain), Matilda Williamson, Summer Thompson, Annabelle Palin, Savannah Eden, Luna McClellan, Keira Bent, Lucy Kenny, Olivia Fallows, Maja Golda, Lily Maloney, Ruby Murphy, Lily Finnigan, Lydia Mason, Neve Foster
