Helen George has confirmed that she will be returning to the hit BBC TV show Call the Midwife after sharing a stunning new photo on Instagram. The star, 39, has played nurse Trixie Franklin on Call the Midwife for more than 10 years, but at the end of the last season appeared to leave the show for good.

Trixie, who married Matthew Aylward in series 13, saw her relationship threatened after Matthew revealed he was 'broke'. Matthew and his son Jonty left for New York, and Trixie eventually decided to join them, leaving Poplar and Nonnatus House behind.

Many fans believed this was the last we would see of one of the most popular midwives on the show, yet today, Helen George has suggested otherwise. Taking to Instagram, Helen posted a selfie to her Instagram stories where she's wearing Trixie's signature blonde bob, along with her perfect makeup and fashionable clothes.

There is no caption, but she's tagged @callthemidwifeofficial in the snap, making fans sure she's returning to the show for series 14. Helen has also been busy away from the BBC cameras too.

She has starred in The King and I at the Dominium Theatre, a musical set in 1860s Bangkok. Helen trained at the Royal Academy of Music, studying musical theatre, and began her career as a backing singer for Elton John during a tour before securing her role as Trixie in 2012.

She also has two children with Call the Midwife co-star Jack Ashton, who she started dating in 2016 while they were filming the Christmas special in South Africa that year. In September 2017, the couple welcomed their adorable little girl, Wren Ivy, into the world, and four years later their youngest daughter Lark was born in November 2021. However, in July 2023, the couple announced they had split after seven years together.

It's likely that series 14 of Call the Midwife will air early in 2025, as the show tends to follow a very reliable release pattern. It's expected to comprise of eight hour-long episodes and a Christmas Special.
