"It takes two minutes to find somewhere to pull over and it only takes a moment to cause a horrific tragedy."

Those are the words of Calvin Buckley as he spoke on ITV's Good Morning Britain about the horrific yet avoidable accident that claimed the lives of his partner and their unborn baby girl. Hollyoaks actress Frankie Jules-Hough died from her injuries in a crash on the M66.

BMW driver Adil Iqbal filmed himself driving at speeds of 123mph as he swerved in and out of traffic on the motorway in Bury, Greater Manchester, before losing control and crashing into Frankie's car. She had pulled onto the hard shoulder due to a punctured tyre when the horrific crash occurred exactly a year ago today (May 13).

Now, her family are campaigning for a better future with safer drivers. Calvin spoke alongside Frankie's dad Frank to GMB's Susanna Reid and Ed Balls about their new campaign called ‘Touch. Screen’.

Frank said: "Last year has been quite dark but since Calvin and I got together to launch the academy it just feels much more positive, we feel we're carrying Frankie and Neeve with us wherever we go and that's allowing us to heal. We want to educate children from Year 1 in school so that they grow up with a better mindset and be more respectful and thoughtful about the things they do and the impact it can have."

Calvin shared the touching story about choosing a name for their daughter just a day before the tragic events. He also had an impassioned message to those that think using a phone whilst driving - even for a second - won't have lifelong consequences.

He said: "The week before the crash we had a gender reveal which was a really positive and happy time. The night before the crash, Frankie and I had a lovely evening and came up with the name Neeve which I'm really happy about because as I've got to share that name with people now.

"It takes two minutes to find somewhere to pull over and it only takes a moment to cause a horrific tragedy so just pull over, or have it [mobile phone] in the boot of the car then you have to pull over."

Adil Iqbal was previously sentenced to 12 years after he admitted causing the death of Frankie Julia Hough and seriously injuring her nine-year-old son Thomas, in a motorway crash. However, in October last year, three appeal judges increased his jail term to 15 years after concluding the original sentence was unduly lenient.

The campaign encourages people to follow these steps to avoid becoming distracted while driving:

  • Staying focused

  • Putting your phone in a place where you won’t be tempted to use it, such as the glovebox, a bag or in your pocket

  • Ensuring passengers know not to create a distraction

  • Finding a safe, legal place to stop if you need to make a call or text, or to use your phone to change a song or check directions
