Australian actress Jessica Falkholt and her sister Annabelle have been left in critical condition following a horror car crash on Boxing Day, with the accident killing their mum and dad.
Jessica, 28, and Annabelle, 21, are fighting for their lives, with Lars, 69, and Vivian, 60, Falkholt dying at the scene.
The sisters were airlifted to hospital and family members are staying with them at their bedsides, 9 News have reported.
The family’s car was involved in a head-on collision on the Princes Highway at Mondayong on the New South Wales south coast in Australia, with 50-year-old Craig Anthony Whitall, who was driving the other car involved, also killed on impact.
Other motorists are said to have risked their lives to pull the sisters from the wreckage, with both cars bursting into flames shortly afterwards – leaving Mr. and Mrs. Falkholt to be identified through their dental records as their remains were burnt in the fire.
The Daily Telegraph report that a car driving on the wrong side of the road caused the collision, hitting the Falkholt family head on as they made their way home to Sydney following a short festive break.
New South Wales police have now warned drivers in the area about “fatigue and complacency” whilst driving, with the crash raising the state’s Christmas fatality toll to 21.
NSW Police Chief Inspector Phil Brooks told ABC: “More than half of these have involved single vehicle run-offs either into a tree or a telegraph pole — sadly killing that driver and/or their passenger — which is an indicator to us that fatigue is the most likely outcome in these very sad and tragic events this close to Christmas.
“Today, for example, perfect driving conditions right throughout the New South Wales road network and drivers are taking these conditions for granted.”
Jessica found fame after appearing as Hope Morrison on Home and Away in 2016, also starring in upcoming supernatural thriller Harmony, which is due for release in 2018.
