With a Premier League title decider, a huge Co-op Live gig and one of the hottest days of the year so far, tomorrow is set to be a huge day for Manchester. Manchester City face West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow afternoon, knowing that three points will secure a record breaking fourth consecutive league title.

Then just over the road in east Manchester, American music star Barry Manilow will perform at the Co-op Live tomorrow night. It will be the first time that both a City game and a gig at Co-op Live have been held on the same day.

Warnings have already been issued by transport bosses with the roads and public transport expected to be busy. Another factor will be the expected balmy weather, with forecasts suggesting the mercury will hit 23C tomorrow, with sunny spells throughout the day.

With football supporters and music fans converging on east Manchester, people are being advised to plan their journey in advance. Ticketholders for the Barry Manilow gig can use the Metrolink free of charge for four hours before and after the show.

Manilow tickets can also be used on post-event shuttle buses from Co-op Live to the city centre. However, travel on commercial bus services is not included with event tickets. Parking at Co-op Live has already sold out for the gig.

Double trams are being put on for football fans, with a shuttle bus service to the city centre and 17 supporters bus services serving routes across Greater Manchester also being available. There are also walking routes from east Manchester into the city centre.

Danny Vaughan, Chief Network Officer at TfGM, said: “We’re expecting it to be a really busy Sunday with Barry Manilow in town and Manchester City on the brink of a fourth consecutive Premier League title – that’s why we’ve worked with partners on plans to ensure our transport network is as robust as possible on the day.

“We want everyone to have a great time and, would encourage those off to the Etihad or Co-op Live to use public transport for their journeys, or consider walking, cycling or wheeling as the best way to get to and from their destination.

“Planning and preparation for events such as this is done in great detail and there will be plenty of staff on hand to help and support people making their way to and from their destination.

“Enhanced bus and tram services will be in place and we will also be monitoring the network and providing up to date travel information so people’s journeys run as smoothly as possible.”
